To fix this issue I am very new to powershell and am trying to extract a number from a variable. For instance, I get the list of ports using this command: $ports = [system.io.ports.serialport]::getportnames() , Well, a quick way would be
$portlist = [System.IO.Ports.SerialPort]::GetPortNames() -replace 'COM'
[int[]] $portlist = ...

I wish did fix the issue. So today I had an exam where I needed to write some programs and one of the assignments was really hard for me: , It is all about bit-masking and bit-shifting.
#include <stdio.h>

#define MASKA 0x038 // 0000 0011 1000
#define MASKB 0x780 // 0111 1000 0000
#define SHIFTA 3    //        XX X-->
#define SHIFTB 4    // 0XXX X--- >

int main()
   short msg = 0x08CF;
   short msg2 = ((msg & MASKA) >> SHIFTA) | ((msg & MASKB) >> SHIFTB);

   printf("0x%04x -> 0x%02x\n", msg, msg2);
0x08cf -> 0x09

I think the issue was by ths following , I have variables that always start with a number or numbers and need the script to determine where this number ends, now for an example the variable can be like the following:
$arr = str_split($str);
for($i = 0; $i < count($arr); ++$i){
       echo "Number ends at index: " . $i;
