may help you . Instead of using for-each I'd recommend to familiarize yourself with matching templates to handle the entire structure.
Your current approach misses the element containing the text you expect to be rendered as your
  • content.
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <xsl:stylesheet version="1.0" xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform">
        <xsl:output method="html" indent="yes"/>

        <!-- usually start out with matching the document root -->
        <xsl:template match="/">
            <!-- ... and pass on to the next matching template -->
            <xsl:apply-templates />
        </xsl:template>

        <!-- your matching ul element -->
        <xsl:template match="unorderedList">
            <ul>
                <!-- ... pass on to the list content -->
                <xsl:apply-templates />
            </ul>
         </xsl:template>

         <!-- nothing to do at this level -->
         <xsl:template match="listitem">
             <!-- ... pass on -->
             <xsl:apply-templates />
         </xsl:template>

         <!-- nothing to do at this level -->
         <xsl:template match="para">
             <!-- ... pass on -->
             <xsl:apply-templates />
         </xsl:template>

         <!-- we reached the li content! --->
         <xsl:template match="literal">
             <li>
                 <xsl:value-of select="./text()"/>
             </li>
         </xsl:template>

    </xsl:stylesheet>

    How do you set the color of the bullet in an unordered list?

    this one helps. ListItem is a subclass of Paragraph which is basically a smart collection of Chunks. The constructor to Paragraph and thus ListItem sets the default for further chunks that get added. Since you aren't setting any defaults in your constructor the system is using its own defaults which are black.
    So instead of using the default constructor for ListItem and adding content with ListItem.Add() try using the constructor that takes a Chunk.
    Dim li = New ListItem(New Chunk("...", myFont))

    ul.ListSymbol = New Chunk(ChrW(&H2022), myFont)

    Unordered list with words instead of bullet?

    I wish this helpful for you You can achieve what you're trying to do with the :before psuedo-selector without actually needing to define separate content for each :beforeusing the CSS counters.
    Here's a demo:
    ul li {
      list-style: none;
    }
    ul {
      counter-reset: my-badass-counter;
    }
    ul li:before {
      content: 'S'counter(my-badass-counter)'.';
      counter-increment: my-badass-counter;
      margin-right: 5px;
      font-weight: bold;
      position: absolute;
      margin-left: -25px;
    }
    <ul>
      <li>One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One. One./li>
      <li>Two</li>
      <li>Three</li>
      <li>Four</li>
      <li>Five</li>
      <li>Six</li>
      <li>Seven</li>
      <li>Eight</li>
    </ul>

    Text before bullet in unordered list

    I think the issue was by ths following , Using :before pseudo here would restrict the use of different text. Wrapping the text which you need with some tag before the bullets will make it easier to give appropriate classes to it.
    Check this JsFiddle for working example.
