WITH un001 as ( SELECT ... ),
un002 as ( SELECT ...)
SELECT *
FROM un001
JOIN un002
  ON un001 .CCaseID = un002.CCaseID

subquery uses ungrouped column "i.date_time" from outer query

wish helps you I have two tables: item_status_log and items. The items table has the columns itemid, status, and ordertype. The item_status_log table has itemid, date_time, new_status, and old_status. Basically, when the status is changed in my program, a record is logged in the item_status_log with the old status, the new status, and the date_time. , I think you just need conditional aggregation:
select to_char(date_time, 'MM-DD-YYYY') as "Shipment Date", count(*) as "TOTAL Items",
       sum(case when i.ordertype = 'ORDER' then 1 else 0 end) as NumOrders,
       sum(case when i.ordertype = 'INVENTORY' then 1 else 0 end) as NumInventory
from item_status_log il join
     items i
     on il.itemid = i.itemid
where old_status = 'ONORDER'
group by "Shipment Date"
order by "Shipment Date" desc;

MySQL subquery error not "propagated" to outer query

I wish did fix the issue. To answer my own question, now that I have been inspired to play around a bit.
Firstly, note that, contrary to comments, it does not seem to be a client issue. Whether it is a bug/feature/intended in MySQL I do not know. But it is certainly a worrying behaviour to try to detect.
SELECT * FROM charges WHERE ChargeID IN
    (SELECT zzzChargeID FROM history WHERE BatchID = 3500);
SELECT * FROM charges WHERE ChargeID IN
    (SELECT ChargeID FROM history WHERE BatchID = 3500);
SELECT col1, ... FROM table1 WHERE col1 IN
    (SELECT col1 FROM table2 ...)
SELECT col1, ... FROM table1 WHERE col1 IN
    (SELECT table2.col1 FROM table2 ...)
