Why is my Gdk/cairo class causing a segfault?

To fix this issue You should not have to deal with memory management in GJS even if the underlying library requires it. If you do, it's a bug. Trying to do it anyway will definitely cause a crash. (So if you see any instructions to call GLib.free() or GObject.unref() even in the GJS docs — they're autogenerated from the C documentation and should not be there.)
Unfortunately such bugs that require you to care about memory management do still exist, and two of them are relevant to your code snippet.
let image_stream = Gio.MemoryInputStream.new_from_bytes(

Class variable is causing segfault

help you fix your problem The cause of the crash is not visible in your code sample. What's presumably happening is that the function is being called on a non existing object.
Consider this code:
int foo;
Actor * bad_actor = 0;  // No Actor object exists, only a null pointer.

Pointer to base class lost in while loop, causing segfault. C++

Hope this helps Tetramino *pBlock is local within its scope. You're shadowing over the one in main with the one within the if.
Also, myBlock is local and will be destructed - you'll have a dangling pointer. You should allocate with new (and delete...)

If statement with a class pointer is causing a segfault

hope this fix your issue The root of your problem is that your Engine::getInstance method has a bug.
Engine* Engine::getInstance()
    Engine* instance = instance_;

    if( !instance_ )
        instance_ = new Engine;

    return instance;
Engine* Engine::getInstance()
    if( !instance_ )
        instance_ = new Engine;

    return instance_;

C++ pointers and class hierarchy causing a segfault puzzler

like below fixes the issue to orbitcowboy's tip, I used cppcheck which found the issue right away:
[include/snake/tail_node.hpp:13] -> [include/snake/game_object.hpp:18]: (warning) The class 'TailNode' defines member variable with name 'parent' also defined in its parent class 'GameObject'.

What is causing this segfault in Go?

Hope that helps Background: Because Go's inbuilt JSON marshaller doesn't check for zero values when given the omitempty flag, we're trying using *time.Time rather than time.Time in structs that need to be marshalled cleanly to JSON. The problem with this is obviously we need to be very careful to always check it is not nil when using it. One thing we did notice was in a function that sets a creation time on the encompassing struct, when we checked the JSON in the database all of the times were exactly the same, down to the nanosecond. , In your loop you copy every Timekeeper value. Do this instead:
for i := range t {
    now = time.Now()
    t[i].myTime = &now
