I hope this helps you . I think it would have been helpful if you'd posted some examples of data. But an approximation to what you're looking for is:
with open('pathways.dat','r', errors='ignore') as infile:
  i = infile.read().find(string_to_search)
  infile.seek(i+number_of_chars_to_read)

Want to overwrite specific character on a specific line in a text file with new characters in Python

I hope this helps . I Have a program that calculates a score 'LevelScore' and i want to open the UserFile 'UserScoreFile' and check against the current user score saved in the file, and if LevelScore > CurrentScore overwrite the previous characters representing that levels score in the text file to the LevelScore. , Here's the solution me and Luke have come up with collaboratively:
UserFileRW = open("UserScoreFile.txt","r+")
UserFileLines = UserFileRW.readlines()
UserLevelLine = UserFileLines[lev]
UserLevelScore = int(UserLevelLine[2:])
UserFileRW.close()

if LevelScore > UserLevelScore:
    UserFileWR = open("UserScoreFile.txt","w+")
    UserFileLines[lev] = "T " + str(LevelScore) + "\n"
    UserFileRW.writelines(UserFileLines)
    UserFileRW.close()

To fix this issue split should work just fine so long you ignore the header in your file
processes = []

with open("file.txt", "r") as f:
    lines = f.readlines()

    # Loop through all lines, ignoring header.
    # Add last element to list (i.e. the process name)
    for l in lines[1:]:
        processes.append(l.split()[-1])

print processes
['dns.exe', 'lsass.exe', 'svchost.exe', 'lsass.exe', 'System']

wish helps you Each line has both Sign In and Sign Out. Save the record in a csv file
04/04/16 23:51:55, 04/05/16 00:09:48
04/05/16 00:09:55
var records = System.IO.File.ReadLines(@"C:/users/public/Volunteers/" + Form1.selectedUser + ".csv");

foreach(var line in records) {
    var records = line.split(",")
    DateTime Time_in = DateTime.Parse(records[0]);
    if (records.length > 0) {
       DateTime Time_out = DateTime.Parse(records[1]);
    }
}

will be helpful for those in need If you are trying to split apart the highest level braces you could do something like
string = '{"NextToken": {"value": "...'
objects = eval("[" + string + "]")

I wish this help you Simply open the existing file and read the lines. Assuming that you want to replace the values that always follow 'addmoney' and 'netmoney', you can locate those lines and use re.sub() to substitute the values into those lines. Keep in mind that you can't simply overwrite text files in-place, so you store the modified lines and then recreate a new file at the end, like so:
x1 = 123.12
y1 = 123.45

import re

with open('mytextfile.txt', 'r') as f:
    lines = f.readlines()

    for i, l in enumerate(lines):

        if l.startswith('addmoney'):
            lines[i] = re.sub(r'[0-9.]+', str(x1), lines[i])
        elif l.startswith('netmoney'):
            lines[i] = re.sub(r'[0-9.]+', str(y1), lines[i])

out = open('modifiedtextfile.txt', 'w'); out.writelines(lines); out.close()
