To fix this issue Your setTextToTextView method is called by the onPostExecute method.
But this method simply set a variable s concatenating the value of the json objects.
responseTextView.setText(s);

may help you . I'am totally noob with Android, and just started learning and start one project. Everything was good, but when I want to click button for Register, application crash. I fixed some error, but this can't a long time. Try to debbug also, but don't underestand what debugger said. Any comment, pls help , Try and do something like this:
private Button v;
@Override
protected void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) {
    super.onCreate(savedInstanceState);
    setContentView(R.layout.activity_main);

    v = (Button) findViewById(R.id.bSignUpHere);
    v.setOnClickListener(SignUpOnClick);

}

View.OnClickListener SignUpOnClick = new View.OnClickListener() {
    @Override
    public void onClick(View view) {
        Intent i = new Intent(MainActivity.this, signup.class);
        startActivity(i);
    }
};
<application
    android:allowBackup="true"
    android:icon="@mipmap/ic_launcher"
    android:label="@string/app_name"
    android:supportsRtl="true"
    android:theme="@style/AppTheme">
    <activity
        android:name=".MainActivity"
        android:label="@string/title_activity_main"
        android:theme="@style/AppTheme.NoActionBar"></activity>

    <activity
        android:name=".signup"></activity>

Android Studio Application crash on database insertion

I wish this help you You've got a typo in onCreate(). You're using dbName instead of tableName to create your table, therefore when you're running your query which is looking up the correct name, you're looking up a table that doesn't exist. So:
db.execSQL("create table " + dbName + "( " + colId + " INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT," + colName + " TEXT," + colCarbs + " REAL)");
db.execSQL("create table " + tableName + "( " + colId + " INTEGER PRIMARY KEY AUTOINCREMENT," + colName + " TEXT," + colCarbs + " REAL)");

My application crash without errors, Android Studio

it helps some times Your application does crash with an error. You are receiving a NullPointerException. java.lang.NullPointerException: Attempt to invoke virtual method 'void android.widget.Button.setOnClickListener(android.view.View$OnClickListener)' on a null object reference
This means you are setting an OnClickListener on a Button that is null. In your initializeButtons() procedure you may have forgotten a Button or misspelled the ID?
