wish help you to fix your issue Chris, the analyze table seemed to do the trick. I can't say I understand it any better why this was happening, but that seemed to clear it up.

To fix this issue Apparently SQL Server does a good job at caching those results. Further investigation showed initial query to be taking the same time as with ElasticSearch.

fixed the issue. Will look into that further If you use the as attribute on xsl:variable to declare the type of your variable then the value you select needs to fit that declaration, so given that you have a sequence of strings you need to use . Additionally the <xsl:copy-of select="employees" />
