I wish this helpful for you Your code starts the animation but is not blocking : once the animation is started, the program goes on.
You could try getting an handler and post the change text event at the right time :
Handler mHandler=new Handler();
Runnable lRunnable =new Runnable()
{
    public void run()
    {
    //Your change text code
    }
};
mHandler.postDelayed(lRunnable , 3000); // Or any other duration so you have the right effect

This might help you well, I solved it by putting the Button with a customized TextView together in a FrameLayout, this customized TextView is got from Here, and the following is how I made it:
<FrameLayout
  android:layout_width="match_parent"
  android:layout_height="0dp"
  android:layout_margin="3dp"
  android:layout_weight="1" >

  <Button
    android:id="@+id/button1"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent"
    android:adjustViewBounds="true"
    android:background="@drawable/some_image"
    android:clickable="true"
    android:tag="button1_tag" />

  <com.example.ScrollingTextView
    android:id="@+id/button1_name"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="wrap_content"
    android:ellipsize="marquee"
    android:lines="1"
    android:marqueeRepeatLimit="marquee_forever"
    android:paddingBottom="5dp"
    android:paddingLeft="2dp"
    android:paddingRight="26dp"
    android:paddingTop="3dp"
    android:singleLine="true"
    android:text="zone1"
    android:textColor="@android:color/white"
    android:textSize="14sp" />

</FrameLayout>

it fixes the issue you don't need slide animation, what you actually want is object animation
Code
    Button bt = (Button) findViewById (R.id.button);
    final LinearLayout linearLayout = (LinearLayout) findViewById (R.id.test);
    bt.setOnClickListener (new View.OnClickListener () {
        @Override
        public void onClick (View v) {

            ValueAnimator anim = ValueAnimator.ofInt(linearLayout.getMeasuredHeight (), 500);
            anim.addUpdateListener(new ValueAnimator.AnimatorUpdateListener() {
                @Override
                public void onAnimationUpdate(ValueAnimator valueAnimator) {
                    int val = (Integer) valueAnimator.getAnimatedValue();
                    ViewGroup.LayoutParams layoutParams = linearLayout.getLayoutParams();
                    layoutParams.height = val;
                    linearLayout.setLayoutParams(layoutParams);
                }
            });
            anim.setDuration(1000);
            anim.start();
        }
    });
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
<LinearLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"
    android:orientation="vertical"
    android:layout_width="match_parent"
    android:layout_height="match_parent">

    <Button
        android:layout_width="wrap_content"
        android:layout_height="wrap_content"
        android:text="New Button"
        android:id="@+id/button"
        android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal" />

    <LinearLayout
        android:orientation="vertical"
        android:layout_width="match_parent"
        android:layout_height="0dp"
        android:id="@+id/test"

        android:background="#fff333"
        android:layout_gravity="center_horizontal">

        <Button

            android:text="New Button"
            android:id="@+id/button3" />

        <Button
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:text="New Button"
            android:id="@+id/butt3" />

        <Button
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"

        <Button
            android:layout_width="wrap_content"
            android:layout_height="wrap_content"
            android:text="New Button"
            android:id="@+id/cb" />

    </LinearLayout>

wish helps you I have these buttons here and i want them both to have some animation onclick. To grow up a little bit and then return to normal. , Use Animator can achieve the goal easily:
findViewById(R.id.next).setOnClickListener(new View.OnClickListener() {
        @Override
        public void onClick(View v) {
            Animator scale = ObjectAnimator.ofPropertyValuesHolder(v,
                    PropertyValuesHolder.ofFloat(View.SCALE_X, 1, 1.5f, 1),
                    PropertyValuesHolder.ofFloat(View.SCALE_Y, 1, 1.5f, 1)
                    );
            scale.setDuration(1000);
            scale.start();
        }
    });

To fix this issue You can use like view.animate()...(here set your animation).setDuration(100).start(); But it need api larger than 13.
