Codeigniter ActiveRecord: join backticking

I wish this helpful for you Only a simple workaround, ugly, not elegant, but it works in this case:
$original_reserved = $this->db->_reserved_identifiers;
$this->db->_reserved_identifiers[] = 5;
$this->db->_reserved_identifiers[] = 1;
// or any other values
$this->db->join('with critical values and conditions');
// some db-stuff
$this->db->_reserved_identifiers = $original_reserved;

CodeIgniter ActiveRecord field names in JOIN statement

Hope that helps If you want to select some specific columns from table use db->select(). You can give alias to tables, add some conditions and etc. Send second parameter FALSE to not escape special characters.
$this->db->select('u.id, u.username, c.name', false);
$this->db->from('user as u');
$this->db->join('companies as c', 'u.company_id = c.id');
$this->db->where('LOWER(u.username)=', strtolower('foobar'));
$query = $this->db->get();

I wish this help you The problem is in the parameter ON. There does not exist an integrated solution in the framework (not in version 2).
You have 2 options:

it should still fix some issue From CI doc:
$this->db->select('*');
$this->db->from('request');
$this->db->where('(requestedID = 42 OR challengerID = 42)', NULL, FALSE);
$this->db->where('(requApprove = 1 AND challApprove = 1)', NULL, FALSE);
$query = $this->db->get();

codeigniter ActiveRecord method convert to query

hope this fix your issue No. There is no website/application that convert the CodeIgniter Active record codes into raw query. You will need to used last_query() to get the last raw query you've executed. vice versa from raw sql to CodeIgniter Active record codes
