Adding a directory from the host filesystem to the docker filesystem (not in a dockerfile)

I wish did fix the issue. I have a docker image already. I want to be able to add a directory from the host file system to the docker filesystem. I know that if I am using a base image, I could use the ADD command in the dockerfile but I am not actually using a base image, I want to build a new docker image based on my image with some directories added to it from my host file system. Is there a way to do that? , Just create another docker image based your image.
FROM base-image-name

ADD host_dir  /destination_dir

Docker: filesystem changes not exporting

it should still fix some issue Volumes are not exported with the new image. The proper way to manage data in Docker is to use a data container and use a command like docker run --volumes-from dbdata -v $(pwd):/backup ubuntu tar cvf /backup/backup.tar /dbdata or docker cp to backup data and transfer it around. https://docs.docker.com/userguide/dockervolumes/#backup-restore-or-migrate-data-volumes

Docker run copies to filesystem?

should help you out As I understand it, when you fire up a docker container, the filesystem of the docker image is available to the container in a read only mode. A writable, and initially empty, filesystem "layer" is put on the top and all changes made by the executing process(s) in the container write to that top layer. Any file from the lower layers touched by the executing container is copied up to the top writeable layer and modified there. All such copied up files hide the lower layer copies of the file.
Note, if you were to create another image from the state of the container after it's ran for a while, the delta's that have accumulated in the top writeable layer would become part of that new images read-only base filesystem in any containers created from that new image.

how to create a volume in docker with filesystem?

To fix this issue yes we can create a volume with the specific file system in docker.but they didn't expose the json in any of the document.
i saw the following hint in the doc and tried creating the json.
DriverOpts - A mapping of driver options and values. These options are passed directly to the driver and are driver
curl -H "Content-Type: application/json" -X POST -d'{
  "Name": "vish-test-btrfs",
  "Scope": "local"
}' https://<<<HOST_IP>>>>:2376/volumes/create

<<<file-system-type>>> : can be btrfs, aufs etc ..
$ : cd <mount point of the volume>

eg :

$: cd /var/lib/docker/volumes/<<volume-Name>>/_data

come one directory back

$ : cd ..
$: cat <filename.json>

How to set Docker Backing Filesystem to XFS?

it fixes the issue If you are using the overlay2 storage driver, then Docker never creates filesystems. It is simply creating directories on your existing backing filesystem. If that filesystem is using ext4, that's what you're going to get.
The only situation in which Docker actually creates a new filesystem is when using the devicemapper driver, in which case Docker is carving out chunks from a block storage device and then formatting them for use with the filesystem of your choice.
