Why does date parsing depend on separators?

may help you . "02/20/2009" is the date representation only in en_US locale. "02-20-2009" is not, thus assumed to follow a standard. There are two popular standards, used most everywhere except for the US: DD-MM-YYYY or the ISO 8601, which is YYYY-MM-DD.

Java Date Format that allows - / or . as separators within date

hope this fix your issue It's probably easiest to "tweak" the source string into a canonical format:
if (text.length() == 16)
    if ((text.charAt(2) == '/' && text.charAt(5) == '/') ||
        (text.charAt(2) == '.' && text.charAt(5) == '.'))
        text = text.substring(0, 2) + "-" + text.substring(3, 5)
           + "-" + text.substring(6);

Parsing an ISO 8601 date in Java8 when all fields (including separators, but not including years) are optional

it helps some times Well that took me longer than I had expected. The only valid parser is:
DateTimeFormatter dtf = new DateTimeFormatterBuilder()
        .appendValue(ChronoField.YEAR, 4)
        .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.MONTH_OF_YEAR, 1)
        .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.DAY_OF_MONTH, 1)
        .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.HOUR_OF_DAY, 0)
        .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.MINUTE_OF_HOUR, 0)
        .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.SECOND_OF_MINUTE, 0)
        .parseDefaulting(ChronoField.NANO_OF_SECOND, 0)

String[] s = {
for (String line : s) {
  System.out.println(LocalDateTime.parse(line, dtf));

I hope this helps you . You can use appendValue
                new DateTimeFormatterBuilder()
                        .appendValue(YEAR, 4)
                        .appendValue(ALIGNED_WEEK_OF_YEAR, 2)
                        .parseDefaulting(WeekFields.ISO.dayOfWeek(), 1).toFormatter()
