Why Java's String has the method length() rather than property length (like an array?)

Any of those help Because length() is defined in CharSequence interface, which is implemented by String. Interfaces can't define properties in Java. Also, this makes it more interchangeable with other types.
In many methods, you may rely only on CharSequence interface instead of a real String, then you can use an instance of CharBuffer, Segment, String, StringBuffer or StringBuilder in the call site.

Hope that helps Hi I am new to Java and am working on a project to get a string split up into individual characters and sent to JavaFX. I imagine the best way is to create an Array for this. , I hope this code will help you.,
    String str = "hello";
    char[] ch = new char[str.length()];
    ch = str.toCharArray();
    for(int i=0;i<ch.length;i++){
     //this will print all the char
     System.out.println("ch len == "+ ch[i]);
     //to select specific char
     if(ch[i] == 'l'){
         System.out.println("selected chars == "+ ch[i]);

wish help you to fix your issue String.split() takes a regular expression as its input. Therefore, . matches any characters, so "__ __" is treated as a delimiter as well.
To make it matches only "__.__", you need to escape the special character ., i.e.,
String deli = "__\\.__";
